A Season of Gratitude, Growth, and Stewardship - LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dear Friends of the Confluence,
As fall settles in across the floodplain, we are reminded of how much we have to be thankful for—and how much more we’re working toward together.
From the crisp mornings of dove season to the anticipation of migrating ducks overhead, this time of year reconnects us to the land, the legacy, and the community that make the Confluence so special. It’s also a season of reflection and renewal.
Thanks to your continued support, we’ve seen real wins for conservation this year. The withdrawal of the proposed data center project was a major victory for floodplain protection—and a testament to what grassroots advocacy can achieve. We’ve also advanced new habitat initiatives that will benefit migratory birds for generations to come, expanding stewardship across key corridors of the Mississippi Flyway.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to host with our many partners, upcoming mentored hunts that introduce new generations to ethical hunting and habitat appreciation. These experiences are more than tradition—they’re a gateway to lifelong conservation values.
As always, we remain vigilant in the face of development pressures and regulatory challenges. But with your partnership, we’re not just defending the Confluence—we’re building a future rooted in resilience, access, and ecological integrity. We cannot do it alone. You are our beacon of success.
We thank you and invite you to stay engaged, celebrate these wins, and explore new opportunities with us at www.grha.org. Your voice, your time, and your passion make all the difference.
Wishing you a safe, bountiful, and meaningful fall season,
With gratitude, J. Michael Checkett
