As many of you know, Great Rivers Habitat Alliance (GRHA) has been leading the charge to influence and improve the proposed routes for Ameren Missouri’s Eastern Missouri Grid Transmission Project. Over the past several weeks, GRHA has taken a proactive, coordinated, and sustained approach to ensure the Confluence floodplain, and the communities, wildlife, and landscapes it supports, remain protected.

GRHA has conducted extensive research, developed a unified strategy, and assembled a diverse stakeholder group representing clubs, NGOs, landowners, and community partners. We launched a series of e‑blasts and social media communications, resulting in strong public engagement and local television coverage. GRHA submitted detailed comments to Ameren, engaged directly with the project team, arranged an in‑person meeting between Ameren and our stakeholder coalition, attended public open houses, and provided critical information to partner organizations throughout the process, including the Mississippi–Missouri Confluence Conservation Coalition.

Because of this collective effort, significant progress has been made, but the fight is far from over. GRHA remains fully committed to protecting the Confluence and will continue to advocate for responsible routing that avoids new corridors through sensitive floodplain habitat.

Ameren Missouri is now evaluating the remaining route options for new high‑voltage transmission lines. Several of these proposed routes would carve new pathways through the heart of the Confluence east of Highway 79, threatening decades of restoration work carried out by public agencies, private stewards, and everyday citizens.

This coalition agrees that Missouri needs a strong, modern electric grid.. Our request is simple and reasonable: route new transmission lines along existing corridors, not through irreplaceable wetland landscapes that define the Confluence.
