Standing Together for the Confluence: An Important Update on Ameren’s Transmission Line Proposal

Over the past several months, our community has shown extraordinary commitment in responding to Ameren’s proposed transmission line routes near the Mississippi–Missouri River confluence. Your participation—submitting comments, attending Ameren’s open houses, sharing information with neighbors—has made a real impact. Ameren has heard you. They have revised their initial plan, and while this revision represents an improvement, our work is far from finished.

First, we want to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who has taken the time to speak up. Your comments, your presence at public meetings, and your willingness to stay engaged have strengthened our collective voice. Ameren has acknowledged this engagement, and it is clear that community feedback is shaping the conversation. That is meaningful progress, and it belongs to you.

We also want to thank Ameren for listening and for offering a revised plan. Dialogue matters, and constructive engagement is essential. However, we must be equally clear: we cannot support any proposed new routes east of Highway 79. Despite improvements, two key areas remain in harm’s way (see circled in red), areas that are simply too sensitive, too valuable, and too irreplaceable to risk.

The wetlands, wildlife habitat, and floodplain soils in this region form one of the most ecologically significant landscapes in the Midwest. These lands support migratory birds, endangered species, and a rich mosaic of natural systems that cannot be replicated once disturbed. The floodplain soils here are vital not only for habitat but for water quality, storm resilience, and long‑term environmental health. Any new transmission route east of Highway 79 threatens these resources, and we must continue to stand firm.

Ameren has emphasized to us that continued public participation is essential. They are still gathering input, still evaluating routes, and still listening. That means your voice remains powerful—and urgently needed.

Ways You Can Help Today

  • Identify key habitat and oppose routes — Ameren has encouraged us to continue pinpointing sensitive areas, critical wildlife corridors, and routes that pose unacceptable risks. Please submit these insights directly through Ameren’s comment portal. Submit here: Ameren Eastern Missouri Grid Transformation Project Webmap
  • Share this message with your network — Reach out to friends, neighbors, and contacts. Forward this email. Help others understand what is at stake and encourage them to submit comments.
  • Submit your own comment — If you have not yet commented, please do so today. Your voice matters, and every submission strengthens our position.

Together, we have already influenced the conversation. With continued engagement, we can protect the wetlands, wildlife, and floodplain soils that define the Confluence region. Thank you for standing with us and for continuing to speak up.
