From the Executive Director – End of Year Reflection

As 2025 comes to a close, we reflect on both the challenges and triumphs of the past year. From expanding conservation programs to strengthening partnerships, our mission has never been more vital.

This special 25th anniversary year for Great Rivers Habitat Alliance (GRHA) has been filled with momentum, new opportunities, and meaningful moments in the field—reminders of why this landscape matters to both people and wildlife. We want to thank you for standing with us as we work to protect and enhance the Confluence.

The Jay and Carolyn Henges Wetland Education and Conservation Center has been central to that progress. Since acquiring the property, our team and partners have restored wetlands, improved habitat, drilled new wells and opened doors to new educational and outdoor experiences. The Center is quickly becoming a place where young people, families, and first-time hunters connect with the outdoors and learn the importance of wetlands and floodplains.

Another highlight was the withdrawal of the proposed “Project Cumulus” data processing center from St. Charles County’s 100-year floodplain, marking a small but meaningful win for the Confluence region. While not a permanent safeguard, this decision reflects the power of coordinated advocacy and the importance of prioritizing ecological resilience over short-term industrial gain.

Throughout 2025, GRHA met with civic leaders and policymakers to ensure floodplain protection remained a priority. We strengthened partnerships supporting habitat restoration, research, and public awareness, advancing efforts to position the Confluence as a nationally recognized natural treasure.

Looking ahead, our focus is clear: continue restoring and enhancing the Henges Center, expand hunting and educational programs, protect critical Confluence habitat, and champion policies that safeguard the Confluence for future generations. Your generosity fuels this work—thank you for standing with us.

We wish you a wonderful New Year!
